Ontario On-Reserve Housing

Reports indicate that on-reserve housing in Canada represents one of the worst living conditions amongst our people. The mold and mildew that continues to grow on the walls, even though the walls have been washed and washed over again is a health hazard itself. The dangers of the mold in houses could seriously jeopardize our families.

In some First Nation Communities, families are struggling to live a lifestyle that they can feel comfortable knowing that their loved ones will grow up to live a long and healthy lifestyle.

Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation is on a mission to rectify these areas so our members could feel safe, comfortable and most importantly healthy.

Maintenance

In cooperation with the Operations and Maintenance Program, Tribal Agency, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) we are in the process of doing much needed repairs to some of the Elders Units, Residents/Tenants Housing.

Examples Include:

  • Wheelchair access,
  • Replacing siding,
  • Landscaping,
  • Replacing drywall and painting,

*All projects and renovations that are complete by code and signed off by the Housing Inspector.

The First Nation appreciates all those who have contributed to the housing projects.
